What to Expect

Participation

Cub Scouting is designed to be a family activity. You will need to work with your Scout on progress and advancement in the program. Parents must signoff when certain program Adventures and Electives are accomplished. Den Leaders will help guide parents to understand what is required.

We encourage parents to read through their Scout's Cub Scout handbook early in the year to be aware of what activities are required for the Scout to earn each rank. As an important member of the Scouting Team (Scout, Leaders, and Family), we depend on your participation, input, ideas, and suggestions to help Pack 24 "Go and Grow." Please keep in mind that Scouting is a volunteer organization and we count on everyone to lend an occasional helping hand.

Communication

With a group as large as ours, communication is always a challenge. Families are primarily kept aware of Pack 24 activities through this website and email messages from the Pack and Den Leaders. Please be sure that we have your correct, current email address. We are happy to include more than one email address for your family on our distribution list. Individual event pages are often created for special events and family outings. When asked to respond, please reply by the specified date. We need to know in advance how many people will attend a particular outing or event.

Listening

There are important things said and done at all of our meetings. In order to benefit, we must all listen - Scouts and parents. Please help us keep our meetings focused and productive. Keep control of your children. Scouts and families can socialize before and after the formal activities.

Volunteers

Cub Scouts is a parent volunteer driven organization. The quality of programs we can deliver is only as strong as the willingness of parents to participate. We need your help and participation to make this program work. You will find that the amount of enjoyment both you and your child get from the program is directly related to your participation. Get involved, it’s great.

Leadership

Teaching the Cubs leadership starts with the example you set for your child. Please show respect for the Den and Pack Leaders and for other Scouts at meetings. The individual primarily responsible for working with your child is the Den Leader. All of our Leaders undergo training designed to both maintain a safe environment for children, and to provide a solid basis for planning and delivering a quality program. If at anytime you have questions about the program, please contact the Cubmaster.

General Housekeeping

Please share this information with your whole family!

When in the gym, please:

Please be at meetings and outings on time, so that the activity is productive and ends when it should!

Since we are all guests and responsible for the place we meet, please ensure your Scout acts properly and follows the appropriate rules. When at Scouting activities and meetings at Hawthorne, no one is allowed in the halls except to enter or exit the gym and the bathrooms. It would also be greatly appreciated if Scouts and parents will please stay for a few minutes after the meeting to help clean up.
